Movie Mutterings & More Besides…

Coming Soon to a Multiplex near you…

Coming Soon

As an avid movie fan I always like to keep an eye on what is upcoming and will be released soon. Here’s a short list of movies that have caught my eye so far either by name, the trailer or who is involved (in front and behind the camera). The list Will probably change with time, new ones added, some not seen but in no particular order so far they are:

2006 Releases

Nacho Libre -Jack Black in a comedy about a Mexican wrestler.

Flyboys - Dean Devlin brings us some WWI dogfighting action.

The Children of Men - The trailer for this peaked my interest, starring Clive Owen, Michael Caine and Julianne Moore star.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre : The Beginning - The remake a couple of years ago was surprisingly good considering, and after watching the trailer this seems to be more of the same - literally looks like the same film with same happenings (but these happened before the first movie). Will check it out as I always have time for a blood filled horror movie.

Talladega Nights : The Ballad of Ricky Bobby - Will Ferrell comedy also starring Gary Cole and John C. Reilly centered around NASCAR racing, looks like a winner to me.

The Grudge 2 - BuffySarah Michelle Gellar returns for the sequel. Enjoyed the first one but have yet to see the original Japanese version that started it all. (I know - shameful)

Saw 3 - Didn’t catch the first two of these until DVD but there’s some nice gore in there, the third promises to top both of them.

Flushed Away - Aardmans first CGI creation via Dreamworks. May not be up to Pixars standards but looks top notch anyway.

Snakes on a Plane - Samuel L. Jackson in fine mofo form and lot’s of snakes - does what it says on the tin and a must see.

Casino Royale - Bond is back in a more grittier and back to basics reincarnation this time round - can’t say I was impressed when the casting was announced (blonde bond - nooooooo) but the teaser trailer has altered my opinion slightly. Will probably check it out but you just know he won’t be a patch on Sean Connery.

Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny - Jack Black and Kyle Gass bring their band to the big screen. Tribute.

Wicker Man - The first was a classic and no way will this surpass it, but if it is not a direct remake, and more of a re-imaging it could work. Nik Cage can turn in some good performances so we shall see…

The Fountain- Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz star in this sci-fi love story. What if you could live forever?

Borat - Sacha Baron Coen stars as the hapless reporter from Kazakhstan.

Eragon - Dragons. Cool.

Night at the Museum - Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Carla Gugino, Robin Williams, Steve Coogan and Ricky Gervais. The exhibits in a Natural History Museum come to life at night.

Rocky Balboa - AKA Rocky VI. The first four were great, and have yet to see number five (just seemed like a sequel too far) and this did not interest me either until the first few bars of that music in the trailer - then I was hooked. Going to have to catch up with the fifth before seeing this.. (Let’s hope Rambo IV lives up to expectations as well)

2007 Releases

Fred Clause - A Vince Vaughn Christmas Comedy. Good early word so far.

Halloween - I have serious reservations on this one, I really do. Curious though.

10,000 B.C. - Roland Emmerich’s latest epic with Mammoths.

National Treasure 2 - The whole gang return for more adventures. Bring it on…

Step Brothers - Will Ferrell and John C.Reilly return with the team that brought you Tallageda Nights.

Hellboy 2 - Enjoyed the first one, and also looking forward to this.

Live Free or Die Hard - The Vest is back, this time taking on cyber terrorsits intent on shutting down the US IT infrastructure.  Crap Ttile, hopefully better action movie.

Hostel 2 - Have yet to see the first one yet but heard good things about it, and I am a glutton for punishment.

Pathfinder - Vikings against Native Americans in this violent tale.

Pirates of the Caribbean : At World’s End - Jack Sparrow returns for a final adventure. (Until it makes loads of cash and they decide to do another one of course) Filmed back to back with number 2, and all major and minor cast members returning looks like another winner.

I Am Legend -Will Smith stars in the third telling of Richard Mathesons story I Am Legend. Previously filmed with Charlton Heston in The Omega Man.

Ocean’s Thirteen - The Gang is back yet again with another addition this time round. if this carry’s on they will need a bus to fit them all on.

Surf’s Up - Another animation focusing on the Penguin Surfing Championships.

Fantastic Four 2 - Another super hero flick (they just keep coming). Should be a step up from the first one now the introduction to the main players is over.

Evan Almighty - Sequel of sorts to Bruce Almighty, with Steve Carrell (of The Office USA and 40 year old virgin) getting the biblical honors this time round.

Ratatouille - Pixars next, already the animation is looking astounding.

Transformers - I do not know anything about the Transformers, only their name. But Michael Bay can deliver big summer blockbusters and I expect there will be plenty of carnage in this.

Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix - Seen the first four so this as well. These films are not a patch on the Lord of the Rings movies, but enjoyable non the less. I expect the novels are much better, but I am not going to read them until they are all available! My one wish is that they continue all the way to film 7 using the same actors for the main leads, so only 2 left after this one…

The Eye - Tom Cruise and Jessica Alba in a remake of another supernatural Japanese hit.

The Simpsons - Doh. No Brainer.

Ghost Rider - Nic Cage in this comic book adaption. Looks truly stunning from the trailer.

The Bourne Ultimatum - Jason Bourne returns.

Rush Hour 3 - Enjoyed the first two so might as well give this a peek as well.

The Hills Have Eyes II - Hollywood are really jumping on the bandwagon these days with this remake a horror film and then create sequels to the remake.

The Visiting - Nicole Kidman in yet another retelling of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.

Seven Day Itch - Ben Stiller Comedy.

Alan Partridge :The Movie - Back of the net.

Hot Fuzz - The team behind Shaun of the Dead return for their version of a cop buddy movie. Essential viewing.

300 - Probably going to be one of the most visually stunning films ever, an adaption of Frank Millers graphic novel about the Battle of Thermopylae. Filmed in the same style as Frank Millers Sin City.

30 Days Of Night - A new Vampire movie. Excellent.

Resident Evil : Extinction - Paul W.S. Anderson should be shot. Really. Even so the Resident Evil movies are a guilty pleasure for some strange reason, probably because a fan of the games. (I am now going to lash myself several times with a whip for admitting that)

His Dark Materials : The Golden Compass - Have yet to read the novels but they do get good write ups. Recently announced that Nicole Kidman will star.

Grind House - 2 movies for the price of one, with Quentin Tarnatino’s segment Death Proof and Robert Rodriguez Planet Terror. With fake movie trailers separating them.

The Hitcher - Another remake with Sean Bean taking the lead role this time.

28 Weeks Later - Sequel to 28 Days later. No word on Monkey zombies as of yet.

Shrek The Third - Yes, they are all back for a third outing.

Spider Man 3 - The Web Swinger returns as Sandman and Venom create havoc.

Aliens Vs Predator 2 - You know the first film could have been so much better if Paul W.S. Anderson had not involved himself. Two such iconic movie villains should have deserved something a lot better. But it made enough money to make a sequel - I only hope and pray it is not the script that is doing the Internet rounds. If so, we need to hire a hit-man - quickly.

2008 Releases

Bond 22 - As of yet untitled but already the script is taking shape. Could Casino Royale be the first Bond movie for a long time to end with James Bond Will return in xxxxxxxxx -  I am guessing yes.

Iron Man - Early word is good even though it is 2 years away.

Kung Fu Panda - Dreamworks animation with Jack Black voicing Po the Kung Fu Panda.

Madagascar 2 - All voices return for this animation sequel.

The Dark Knight - Batman is back this time facing off against the Joker.

Harry Potter & The Half Blood Price - Yes, he’s back again. One left to go after this.

Indiana Jones 4 - Will it, won’t it. Who knows. Time will tell.

Phew, that was a little longer than I planned. lol.
