Made the trip to see this movie tonight, many thanks to seefilm for providing the preview tickets out of the hat. What can I say - at the moment still undecided on it. Some laugh out loud moments (the moving bed and shark scenes stand out) but overall a little subdued. Had the potential to be so much more than it was. A great cast and a great idea in theory (I am guessing the “pitch” to the suits was excellent) of which Ivan Reitman is famed, but in practice the sum does not equal its parts. It’s not a bad film by any stretch of the imagination and is an enjoyable way to spend an hour and half. The cast deliver with the stand out performance from Uma Thurman, even if she is looking a little too thin for comfort these days. Luke Wilson although as not so in your face as brother Owen delivers what is needed. The gorgeous Anna Faris also puts in a sound performance. It could just be me though but the male sidekick to Luke’s - played by Rainn Wilson was too one dimensional. After seeing The Break Up the other week (itself not a great movie either) I can’t help but think that Vince Vaughn or Jon Favreau would have realized the part so much better in my opinion. Also the obligatory scene after the end credits is also here - every movie out recently seems to have one for some reason… So there you have it - short and sweet. If you enjoy Uma then it’s a no-brainer.
I have yet to decide on a ratings system so no amount of stars as of yet. This all new to me so please be patient.
