Just thought I'd chip in and add my compliments on the review.

Yes, 'Plague' is right up there among the top 5 or 6 Hammer movies for all the reasons already mentioned: Andre Morell's strong central role, John Carson's "is he or isn't he" squire, great sets, and a very welcome expanded part for Michael Ripper.

As John pointed out, the dream sequence is one of the scariest and best ever put on film; it still holds up well today and that alone speaks volumes for the quality of the film.

Nice review. Plague has long been a favourite of mine. Definately one of Hammer's finest IMO.

Thanks John. The more I think about it, the more movie sequences seem to owe a big debt to that scene. As one classic example, Michael Jackson's Thriller video appears to be a complete rip-off, no doubt inspired directly by this or from other films that had very similar moments.

Super review; the nightmare sequence, which Mike Parkinson's 'Cinema' featured when I was 11-12 years old (I should have been in bed, but, well, what's a budding movie fan to do?) terrified me then and I think it's still truly frightening now. Not that I have a habit of doing so, but walking through cemetaries finds me looking constantly over my shoulder...
