Yeah, it's a change of pace for them really, a slow burner that builds up in tension nice and steadily. A shame about the ending, but that's the difference between a classic and a 'just okay' I guess. Cheers Livius.

I thought The Witches was kind of fun - not classic Hammer but fun all the same.

Thanks John - it's really a case of doing justice to Plague, and trying not to gush too much over Andre Morell who I reckon is fantastic in this. All in all a very good film, and I might argue if someone wanted an introduction to Hammer, complete with an explanation of their production values and how to make a tiny budget look like a million dollars, then this is as good a movie as any to start off with.

As for The Witches, I honestly don't think it's all that bad, even if it loses its way horribly towards the end.

'Plague' is one of the best Hammer horrors, IMHO, and still has the capacity to scarify. George Romero eat ya heart out. Look forward to your review Mike.

Thanks Michael and don't get me wrong. Prehistoric Women is shocking, yet it almost satisfies that old cliche about something being so bad it's actually good. Except it isn't.

What's next? I'm well ahead in terms of my viewing, and there's a half-written critique on Plague of the Zombies sitting in the draft folder. I also fancy getting stuck into Night Creatures and The Horror of Frankenstein, and I've started watching the Icons of Adventure set, which is pretty good fun and I may have a crack at one of the pirate yarns therein.

Very amusing review. It has to be said that the Michael Carreras Directed Hammer films I've seen have failed to impress; Curse of the Mummy's Tomb is possibly the worst Hammer film ever. However you do make this film sound quite entertaining. What's next for the Hammer Blog than? Oh and if you've seen it, do you reckon The Witches is the stinker it's been made out to be?
