Good comparison with Be Somewhere Else Now, Chaz. I don't know if I've ever been let down quite as much with an album - no more singing at the top of my voice in the car, instead a few listens and then shelved. Sad.

Where disappointments are concerned generally, I think there's a comment to be made about hype versus the eventual product. Some of the films above were promoted beyond belief - you couldn't help but be let down by the near-afterthought of the movie.

As for best of, Ratatouille will certainly figure somewhere. Pixar get it right where so many animation companies fail - perhaps a lesson in concentrating on story and character development as opposed to hauling in all-star names?

Nothing quite equaled the disappointment of Spiderman 3, for me. The original and sequel were excellent and of course that excellence was always going to be rather hard to repeat. If you get a really good movie, odds are the sequel won't be as good. If on the rare occasion you do get a really good sequel to go alongside a really good movie then the favorable odds are that numero 3 won't live up (Godfather III anyone.) It was all wrong but it never needed to be right. This was Spiderman and because of the success of one and two, three was always going to make huge amounts of money. None of the reviews I read beforehand put it in too good a light but nevertheless, I went and saw it. It's how you explain Be Here Now being the fastest selling Oasis album.

As for The Simpsons, I think where you're concerned Mike, you just went in there expecting too much and wouldn't have been pleased whatever the result. I tried to watch it with a lesser dose of expectation weighing on its shoulders and it paid off for I enjoyed it immensely. I watched it a second time and appreciated it even more than the first, catching on to a number of the more subtle jokes that I had missed the first time round. It stands as my favorite movie so far of 2007 in fact (not that I can say I've seen many, to be fair.)

There aren't many movies this year that have been anything really special. Rocky VI and 300 were both good but nothing overly special. A lot of people have been raving about American Gangster but I've also seen poor reviews. If there's one I want to watch then it's Ratatouille though, rated highly in several quarters.

On the note of World's End, I wasn't even going to bother, considering the dross that was Dead Man's Chest but I might just give it a whirl one day.
