[...] After writing about Rear Window the other week, I couldn’t wait to get back to the Alfred Hitchcock boxset and the next title in the series. Though the set contains some undoubted Hitch gems, it also houses a number of lesser known films, or at least titles that don’t have the same level of kudos as the aforementioned Window, Vertigo or Psycho. One such example, and a movie I saw for the very first time before writing this, is today’s topic, a departure for Hitch that took him into the realms of lighthearted black comedy.
Well, I can't believe you haven't got at least one of these (and be aware 'Dracula' is coming again, spruced up and with extras), but how about this:

Thanks John - bought! Now I feel slightly guilty, but hey £14 (inc delivery) for eight classic movies can't be bad. I can't wait to catch Brides again, not to mention Curse of the Werewolf, another about which I have fond memories.

Cheers again! If anyone knows of other things I can spend my money on, please let me know ;)

Mike; the 'Brides' transfer (pretty much all the transfers) on the R1 Universal 'Hammer Horror Series' set is fabulous, and it's stupidly cheap.

Thanks Paul. I'd been looking for the Hammer set for ages, but only found the HMV offer in our local store last week. Given some of the shoddy titles it contains (I haven't seen Prehistoric Women, but I bet it's a lot worse than it sounds, and that's bad), I wouldn't want to pay loads for it (e.g. HMV's online price). Shame there's no Brides of Dracula on there - my personal Hammer fave.

You're totally right about Rear Window - I watched it again a few weeks ago and despite its slim storyline (as you say) it is truly great. Hitchcock was rarely 100% concerned about the story overtaking a film's components in importance anyway as far as I can gather. I've been watching Rear Window every couple of years for about 15 years now and love it!

Lucky bugger getting that Hammer set for that price - I paid about £20 more for it. I reviewed most of it at Grim Cellar a few months back but, while there are some great movies in there, I couldn't muster up enough enthusiasm for some of them to bother reviewing: Prehistoric Women anyone? No thanks. I don't even think think One Million Years BC is as good as everyone thinks, but then I love Scars of Dracula. Nice to see things like The Witches at long last too.
