Musings on Moving Pictures

Just another Filmjournal.net weblog

In the beginning…

Let me say, right from the outset, that I can no longer stand the uninterested crowds that flock to multiplexes. Mobile phone conversations, right there in the cinema conversations, eating, and generally not being interested in the film before them makes a visit to the cinema an unendurable chore.

Many will say “Then what the hell are you doing writing this, then?”

Well, since I love film, I have to get my fix via cable and DVD. And since I am lazy I don’t like to write too much. Therefore; the film photoblog is born.

To begin with….

A 19 year old Lauren Bacall

my all time favourite film. To Have and Have Not.

The real life story of Bacall and Bogart has overshadowed this film to an extent, but also added to its mythology. Either way, Bacall was the sexiest ingenue of all time and the dialogue is tremendous.

All you have to do is whistle...

Casablanca may be more beloved, but nothing tops this for chemistry between actors.

Quite a striking looking woman she certainly was - reminds me of Mila Jovovich in that last still. Don’t know about you but I find if I pick and choose times and locations carefully I more often than not experience an undisturbed cinema viewing (i.e. go to earliest possible screening, wait a week or so before seeing a film, etc.).
