This is the death-knell then? A natural successor to the DVD format, agreed on by the DVD Forum and then stabbed in the back by a maniacal corporation who have long memories and, above all else, desire power and control.

Having seen the way Sony treated their loyal consumers with the over-priced, under-supported PS3, and knowing the relish with which the Sony Corporation protect their 'intellectual properties' (Lik Sang anyone?) and the likely relish with which they will pursue this (rigidly enforced region coding, hellish DRM and harassing and closing down grey importers), the only good thing to come out of this is that I can now go down the shops and buy up a blu-ray player safe in the knowledge I have both bought the successor to DVD and will have a nice player that will be 100% compatible with all blu-ray releases, current and future.

What's that you say, I can't even do that as the current players aren't even finished......
