Fair enough if it's a genuine director's cut, but in most cases, it's simply a case of studio suits saying to the director "Hey, can you throw in a few extra scenes?" (if they even bother going to the director, that is). The biggest offender is the extended cut of <b>Gladiator</b>, preceeded by an introduction by a miffed Ridley Scott, who informs us that is this not the director's cut, but that it has a few extra scenes that we "might find interesting".
