About
Intentions and stuff
The Film Review began with the intention of being a site that writes film reviews. Nothing more, nothing less. I decided for the foreseeable future that I’d be authoring the site alone and I wouldn’t try to outdo myself. You won’t find news, interviews or the like here. I leave that to others who’ve more time on their hands and a credible amount of staff to support them.
I hope to be a professional film critic one day. I’m a big fan of film and so getting paid to write about a hobby is something I’d like to try. I know it isn’t that simple of course and from what I’ve heard, it’s a real tough game to enter. That won’t stop me trying. The Film Review then is somewhere I can write reviews in the hope that with each review I write I’ll get better at it.
Reach for the stars
There’s a star rating system on the site which goes from ½ a star to 5, ½ a star being the lowest a film can get and 5 being the highest. It’s really that simple. It’s worth baring in mind that I use half stars so I might award a film 4½ if it’s almost a five but not quite. And for those of you who like to see films marked out of ten, that’s partly why the half stars have been introduced. You think of it like this: 1½ stars is equivalent to 3/10 and so on.
