We do return from a brief hiatus, the cause of which was unknown. What I have now though is a large period of free time on my hands to use how I will. Why it’s the summer holiday of course. And during that time I’ll be sure to watch many movies, old and new, following which you’ll get my thoughts.
What’s new? Well first and foremost, I’m trying to update my knowledge of the cinema’s greatest flicks, by watching them. There’s a plentiful that get mentioned time, and time again but I haven’t seen - the likes of Citizen Kane, Seven Samurai, Casablanca to name but a few. I begun this process last month though it’s been slow. So far I’ve sat through ‘One Flew Over A Cuckoo’s Nest’ and I loved it.
I’ll also get around to reviewing the latest offerings at my local cinema and some 2007 works that I’ve missed out on or just haven’t got around to talking about yet (aka Spiderman 3, Hot Fuzz, 300 etc.)
For now though know that I’m back and expect a review or two to follow soon.

Borat (Sacha Baron Cohen) is off to America to make a documentary for the benefit of his home country, Kazakhstan. He jets off to New York, producer of the documentary (Ken Davitian) in tow. Along the way, Borat innocently offends many an unfortunate American he comes into contact with and falls for Baywatch star, Pamela Anderson (herself.) Before long he’s headed to California in a used Ice Cream van with a bear for company and carrying the absurd intention of marrying Pamela. Borat is a widely talked about comedy surrounded by a mountain load of hype that got me excited about the prospect of finally seeing it. Does it live up? I don’t think it does.

Young Mexican footballing talent Santiago Munez has a dream that escapes the lowly ambitions of his father. His skill with the ball’s obvious for anyone to see and so it is that Santiago (Kuno Becker) catches the eye of ex Newcastle scout and former player Glen Foy (Stephen Dillane.) Against his father’s wishes Munez hitches a ride to England where he’s promised a trial with Newcastle. It’s there that a love interest with Roz Harmison (Anna Friel,) the club’s sexy nurse, ensues. Finally after much trial and error and with the aid of bad boy eight million pound signing Gavin Harris (Alessandro Nivola) Santiago breaks into the first team making an impact with his debut appearance and naturally delivering an even better performance with his first start at the club and final game of the season where a place in Europe for the club would be decided. It’s predictable stuff but good fun all the same. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m Charlie A, a bit of a film fanatic simply after someplace where I can air my views. With aspirations to be a writer and maybe even a professional film critic someday, not only do I hope this to help me out in that respect but I’m also confident that this will prove an enjoyable side hobby. I don’t promise to deliver daily updates but when I watch a film, old or new, you’ll usually get my thoughts and critique.
Hopefully I’ll provide an entertaining read and I’d welcome the occasional comment or two into the fray also.
