Retrospective Introduction January 1, 2007
Posted by badblokebob in : Editorials, "100 Films..." , trackbackWelcome to 100 Films in a Year!
The task is simple: to see 100 films that I’ve never seen before between January 1st and December 31st.
The purpose of this blog is to document this quest. For every new film I see I’ll post a review and score out of five, as well as essential details about the film. There are also some entries which step outside this remit slightly — short films don’t count as full features, for example, but will still be reviewed; similarly, any “director’s cut”-style new edits that I see that are not substantially different to the original will be reviewed outside the main numbering system. For example, Spider-Man 2.1 is basically the same as Spider-Man 2, but Blade Runner: The Final Cut will probably be notably different enough from the original version of Blade Runner to earn itself a proper number.
This blog originally started out on my deviantART page, but I decided it had broader appeal so later set up its own blog at Blogspot. Since then I have moved it to the much more appropriate home here at FilmJournal. That doesn’t mean I’ll necessarily get any more readers, of course, but I can but hope. Thanks for reading, by-the-way!
The entries for 2007 originally took the form of weekly (or several-weekly) summaries covering anywhere from two to eighteen films, as this was the style I originally adopted on dA. For their transfer to FilmJournal, I have separated them out into individual films, adopting the listing style I began for 2008. They are now also interspersed with ‘editorials’, which are introductions from the summary entries. All of these older entries are of course back dated, so that they appear on the same day I originally posted them to dA. This introduction is also back dated: the original version was posted on Blogspot on Friday 17th August 2007, and revised for FilmJournal on Wednesday 9th April 2008.
Any suggestions for how to improve the blog are always welcome, as are suggestions for films to watch (though I can’t guarantee I’ll watch them immediately, or not have already heard of them, or indeed not have already seen them). Equally, all comments are encouraged, read, and quite possibly replied to.
With all that said… I hope you read on, and enjoy!
